for someone who manages to bump into at least 5 old mates no bleeding matter where you go and proceeds to chat with them for 45 minutes each?

Leave them at home next time you go out, and then tell them what a wonderful/great time you had when you went out. Keep doing it until they ask why they aren't being invited ---then tell them like it is, "you have other friends, go out with them" ---maybe you should only spend time at home with this particular friend. Until they learn how to act properly in public.
