We in the US have the richest poor people in the world. They have homes they don't have to share with other families, all the health amenities and many of the comfort ones, at least one color TV and at least one car per household; they're doing pretty well.

Granted, they can't fly to the Bahamas every other week like the owner of my company does...but I don't want to either, so I'm good with that.

Our "poor" are the richest poor in the world. Most poor people are starving in other parts of the world. Our poor are obese, just as a previous respondent noted. We have to be careful about redistribution of wealth and income, if we take from the rich to give to the poor too heavily, then were is the motivation on either end. Why be rich and take risks and educate yourself if you will have it taken away. No winning here! Or why develop skills and work hard if the government is going to cloth and feed you anyway! No winning here! So if we take away the motives for hard work, skill development and education then everyone losses : rich, poor, our nation at large.

the disparity is in every culture not just america. historically resources have been controlled by a few, while the masses toil on subsistance levels.

only when large amounts of resources are available to the masses on the cheap, does wealth move down. Or when government steps in and redistributes wealth, thru taxes. a lot of wealth was created early in this country with the opening of the west. our countries tax rate on the richest is low compared to some of the more socialist countries in europe where the tax burden could reach 50%.

the saying, it takes money to make money is generally the rule not the exception. Ask most millionaires, the hardest money they made was the first 100,000. once the essentials are paid for the rest of ones wealth can go to work for you vs you working for wealth

there are more dumb weak people, percentage wise, than ever before. The smart ones construct a framework for them to exist in. They sit around and breed. I just saw Idiocracy and it was a special hoot because I've thought this a long time.
