why is dogging called dogging?

I assumed that it's because what you're involved in isn't that far removed from watching stray dogs going at it in the local park. I don't know what possesses some people. How can they do that in public? I find it hard enough, what with Jesus watching.

Because the people who watch use the excuse of 'walking the dog' to go and watch / engage in seeing people have sex in public. There seem to be only a few names for these 'showy' people, and those who ask for others to join them.

It s plain wrong to me. Think of the chance of getting a STD and explain that to your partner!
