Yes there is. A one piece swimsuit, usual has an extra layer of material for the bust . Or a padding is already built into the swimsuit. The material is different than that of a swimsuit, because it has to stand up to the water and the heat.
A leotard,is a thinner material, not good when it gets wet, The heat of the summer will go right through the material, and you could get burned.

Swimming suits and leotards are made of totally different kinds of fabric from each other. Also, leotards for dance classes/working out are made differently from leotards that are meant to be worn as regular clothing.

Don't mix them up, it's a bad situation waiting to happen.

If you went in the water in a leotard, chances are it will stretch, whereas a swimsuit made for water won't. Also the swimsuit will hold your shape in while you are in the water, whereas the leotard will look like a wet t.shirt

I think you could do gymnastics in a bathing suite. But you wouldn't want to go swimming in a leotard.

Swim suit is for going in the water. So it is made of stuff that won't absorb water.
Where as a leotard is designed to absorb swear.

A leotard covers more (usually). The swimming suit has fabric inside to protect yourself from men seeing your breasts while the suit is wet whilst you are swimming. Other than that, no.

leotards are made for dance and gymnastics. they are made out of completley differnt fabrics. the fabric that leotards are made out of will not work in water. they may look the same but they're not :)
