Watches make a snappy jewellery item and a major element of blingage, so that is doubtful. You can't think of these things in terms of supply and demand - that is now quite primitive economic theory. We live in an advanced capitalist state...

I did read somewhere that this was the case, but as the previous answerers said, the continued popularity of watches has more to do with the fashion and status elements (brand and materials, i.e gold) as well as the fact that the more expensive watches include other features which are unavailable on standard cell phones. After all in a meeting, its much better to have a quick glance at a watch rather than pulling your mobile out of your pocket every five minutes.

the scale has definetly been affected but not to the point were people don't buy watches. People DO use mobile phones etc., but keep in mind, nice watches are still a fashion statement and watches worn on the wrist are much more accesible than finding the time on a mobile

Wouldn't think so, as watches are a dress accessory and also a fashion statement (same as mobile phones) but why have only one when you can show off two!

In my opinion although mobile phones have changed the way we communicate most people still feel bare with out a watch on their wrist. you cant always look at your phone during meetings.
