No intercontinental planes ... we could only go to places by land or sea.
England has a tunnel to get to mainland Europe, so they could still travel.
A tunnel across the Bering Straight (Alaska, USA to Siberia) would be needed to keep present markets and future markets active.

Oil is not going to run out in the very near future. Scientists say there's enough oil under the earth's surface to last for many more centuries. The Bush Administration has been causing the public to believe there's an oil crisis. That's why they can set the price of gas at almost $3 per gallon. They have to justify the high cost of gasoline for some reason. They also blamed China. They said China was using all of the oil. Lee Raymond, the former CEO of Exxon, received a $400 million retirement package. These people are making tons of money by convincing the public that there's no way to bring down the cost of gas. The Saudis are making a lot of money too. I'm all for capitalism, but the drug companies and the oil companies have been robbing the public blind. Fortunately, Republicans support low taxes. There would be no way for poor people to afford gas and prescription drugs if it wasn't for low taxes. You say it's a disputed yet common statement that the world is running out of oil. A disputed yet common statement? That's an oxymoron. It's either a fact, or it is not. I have not seen the evidence to assume that it is a fact.

Just as the Victorian age seemed to run on coal, we too will find an alternative source of energy. I hope it will be something cleaner such as hydrogen, but who knows at this point. I mean, I think that a certain amount of oil will still be used in the future, just not as much as we currently use today.

It probably won't run out - it will just get increasingly expensive and usage will fall in tandem with the price rise.
Most of the oil fields considered 'spent' are in fact 80% full - it just becomes too expensive after a certain point to extract the oil. As the price of oil increases however, these old wells will become economically attractive again and the oil majors will re-drill them.
There's plenty of the stuff left.

It would be pretty s**t to be blunt!! The Arabs reckon they've got about 100 years worth of supply yet but you forget about the Russians .... those boys have got so many oil reserves that we don't have to worry just yet ... not for a few hundred years anyway!!

Not much different if we figure out something else before then (although undoubtedly the world will be a lot cleaner and smell better). If we don't, well then we'll be pretty much stuck back in the stone age.

I guess it would be more peaceful. No more wars, countries trying to dominate over those who have resources of oil and the world would be united in finding a better substitute for oil.
