I don't get it. Why do you want power. Its true you'd get a fat paycheck and many other such superficial luxuries, but why? They only bring you temporary happiness. Plus, I wouldn't want to be responsible for so many people's jobs. One decision I make could make/break some one else's life. Being the boss is more work. It is easier to follow. It has been done before. You just do what you are told. That's the way I see it.

It depends what you are ambitious about. Sure, some people are just lusting after money and power, but many are not. There was a time I thought like you do, and passed up promotions and responsibility. It just seemed like a lot of hassle and frankly, I wasn't ready. But there came a time when I started wanting more from life and I how I'd been living became 'been there, done that' and it was time for a change.....besides, I started seeing more I could do/have/be with more money. When you are capable to doing and being more, there is the power of choice, and more opportunity. You start to see yourself as more valuable because you've grown and changed and can handle more than you used to, and it feels good to be able to make a difference. And when you've had enough of putting in effort for someone else's business, you may like the challenge of working for yourself and perhaps making your fortune. It all depends on what it is you care about - what you value will impact what you do, who you are and what you have. It is a priviledge to be able to offer someone employment and have them help you work on your goals. Having (and keeping) good staff is often one of the most challenging parts of being in business - especially when the staff don't care like you do. But if you have a dream, you gotta work towards it, take the steps as they come and grow and learn as you go. It's about what you want for your life and the life of those you care about. There's nothing wrong with ambition and there's nothing wrong with where you are at now - enjoy it. One day it may change or you may always feel this way and that's ok...it's a bit like being single.....sometimes you can be a confirmed bachelor until one day you wake up and decide you want someone special to share your life with.
