Goblins are small nasty fairies that usually group together to do mischief especially to humans. These are very nasty and best to be avoided all together.
Hobgoblins are also ugly and usually rather hairy. They are usually solitary and mostly also known as brownies. Brownies are a helpful house fairy that are very useful to have around.

hob goblins and goblins are the exact same thing, goblin is just the shortened version of the word.
It was shortened a long time ago and now people think that hobgoblins are different.

I would assume the hobgoblin is a larger thing, closer to human size. Maybe slightly more intelligence. I think they leave the goblins when they meet each other.

not entirely sure - however a hob can refer to the male of a species - so maybe its a boy goblin.
