when you dip a burning match stick in a cup of water a hissing sound is produced. but when you dip a burning match stick in to a cup of oil you don't here the hiss . why is this?

when you dip a burning match stick in a cup of water a hissing sound is produced. but when you dip a burning match stick in to a cup of oil you don't here the hiss . why is this? does this incident really wants us to believe that there is some relationship b/w sound and density?
