when you dip a burning match stick in a cup of water a hissing sound is produced. but when you dip a burning match stick in to a cup of oil you don't here the hiss . why is this?

when you dip a burning match stick in a cup of water a hissing sound is produced. but when you dip a burning match stick in to a cup of oil you don't here the hiss . why is this? does this incident really wants us to believe that there is some relationship b/w sound and density?

Because the hissing from the water is the water boiling away into steam (which you can't see - you can only see water vapour). You won't be boiling the oil, just making it hotter. The oil won't be reduced to vapour and so no hissing sound occurs.

The boiling point of water is much lower as compared to vegitable oil. when you dip match in the water the vapor evolved due to the boing of water which makes a hissing sound due to sudden rise in temperature. You can also observe the same sound when you put water droplets on hot iron plate.

I assume its because the water cools the heat source immediately. Whereas the oil most probably accepts the heat -if that makes sense.

because the oil will catch fire, wheras the water will put out the match and also convert it to steam

because when you put it in oil it will explode. unless it's veg oil or something lol
