I have taken numerous tests, including a doctors test on the day that my period was due... but they all come back negative. I am now 2 weeks late. Now i took a hpt at midday today, but after i did it i couldnt bring myself to look at it.. so i had to wait until my man got home which was about 20 minutes, half hour later... it was a plus sign test and there was one light line and one dark line. Do you reckon i left it to long and is it possible that it was a false positive??

If you have left it 20 minutes, then it is possible that it is an evaporation line and could be a false positive. You should not read a test after 10 minutes because it will be misleading. The plus sign tests are not particularly good tests and are known to give misleading results. Try again with another test and discard the test after 10 minutes. It is tempting to look for answers that aren't there but you need an accurate result so be patient. If it is still negative with no sign of your period, go and see your GP who will have more sensitive tests available.

Good luck! Hope it all goes well.

Hi:) Unfortunately you looked at it way past the run time for the test and the results would be invalid.Only thing to do is to take another and check the results within the time limit which is usually 10 minutes.Make sure to use one of the earliest result tests since they are the most sensitive. Some women won't show a +ve until several days, weeks after a missed period .Good luck :)

From someone who has been keeping the HPT people in business, I have researched that any reading of an HPT after the 10 minute time limit is an invalid result. Try testing again because you won't want your hopes high if it's an invalid result. Good Luck!!!

I think that you need to do a retest and look at it right away so you know for sure. By waiting everything gets all messed up and I know that after I had waited on my negative test it did the same thing. Retest and get an accurate result.

It could be an evoporation line after that amount of time. With that said, I would take another one. I really think it could be a positive, maybe the other tests were taken too early.

You can have a false negative but you can't have a false positive. If a line has appeared it means there has been pregnancy hormones in your urine & you only have pregnancy hormones in your urine when you are pregnant. Congratulations!
