I've had a 2000 and a 04 mustang and both car's exhaust crackles when hot and turned off I think it's comming from the catalic converter, but how or what would be a solution to make it stay quiet when car is turned off and exhuast is hot?

Metal expands when hot and contracts when cool. New exhaust systems are one piece and have no joints to expand and slip. The noise is normal-your kitchen stove's oven will do the same thing.

My Ford makes the same noise when it's parked after a hard drive. I think it's the exhaust system and catalytic converter cooling down. One thing to make sure of though is that your engine is running properly. If it were running real rich (too much fuel being injected into the cylinders), then the catalytic converter could get too hot. After a long drive when the car is parked at night, look under the car at the catalytic converter and make sure it is not visibly over heated.

Are you sure the noise isn't from like the oil in the engine dripping down to the oil pan. Its not a crackling noise but maybe a sizzling noise. If the noise is coming from catalic converter, then about the only thing you can do is replace it, with an aftermarket, and high quality one.

Are you really old enough to drive a car?
