Flat drills are when you rake out a section of earth, about an inch deep and the width of your rake, so that when you sow your peas, you will have a wide row, this will help the peas to stay upright, and don't forget to get your "pea sticks" these are twigs about two to three feet high, stick them in the ground either side of your "drill" all along the row, they will hold up the plants and make picking easier, enjoy your harvest, good luck!

First run a line across your bed and with one edge against the line take out the soil about 3 ins deep and by moving the spade across the bed and is what is called a flat drill, spread the seeds out so that the drill is filled, replace the soil and get some wire netting and bend it in to a C shape put this with the open end down and the peas will grow through it.
When the crop has finished cut the haulms and put them in your compost bin, leaving the roots in the ground will add the nitrogen that is produced by these roots for your next crop.

A flat drill is a very shallow trench in the soil about one inch deep and six inches wide. Sow the peas in this trench making sure that they are about two inches apart. Then cover with soil.
