What is the point of knowing something is going to happen if I can not do anything to stop it?

Yes actually I would rather not know some times, I would not feel so guilty, like now, when it turns out to be the death of a loved one. And I am trying to find out what the point is.

Because when it happens you can be prepared for the changes that may take place afterwards financially, emotionally, physically, etc. You cannot always choose to know things ahead of time, sometimes things just happen. If someone else knew you may not find out until later if they didn't get a chance to tell you. So also in a way it shouldn't matter if you know or don't know because you can't always control what you know.
