Not too sure of notation but consider the case where A = [ 1------3 ] is a 1 x 2 matrix ie it has 1 row and 2 columns.
Similarly let other matrix be a 2 x 1 matrix ,B, given by [ 1 ]
--- [- 2]

product of 1 x 2 and 2 x 1 matrix is a 1 x 1 matrix i.e. a single number.
Number is given by 1 x 1 + (3 x -2) = - 5 = matrix C
Hence AB = C = [ - 5 ]
