I went to US a couple of years ago and got some shoes I am a size 8/9 UK and found that depending on which shop I was in US 9.5 was fine.

The USA soe size equivalent to the UK 8 (Euro 42) is US size 9.5.

For comparison, I checked a couple pairs of my shoes and one of my size 10 shoes says it is a UK 7.5, and another of my size 10 shoes says it's a UK 41.
