Whenever i connect any device to my usb port a message gets displayed " this device may perform faster if connected to a high speed usb port .. please click here for a list of available ports "...when I click on that dialogue box a help window opens up ..the thing is that right next to the usb ports ... there is "high speed usb" clearly written ...
so pl. tell me if i have to get any drivers or what for the data transfer to be faster .. any link to the driver site will be appreciated ..

Its possible your USB port is not 2.0 , therefore everytime you plug in a 2.0 device it will tell you you could get faster speeds ( like if you werent using the port at all)

You are connecting a USB2 device to a USB1 port. Nothing wrong with this the device will simply slow down to USB1. Windows is suggesting you have a look to see if there is a USB 2 port on your machine. If there are USB 2 ports, the drivers come with Windows XP.

now-a-days on the motherboard the usb panel near the keybord socket are usb 2. if u r connecting the usb in the front panel try to connect it at the back panel.
try to update the usb driver , that might help also.
as the other person said it will make a little difference in performance. all u data and information will have no difference.

Your usb port may be an older one. you can upgrade your self to a usb port which USB2.0 compatible which has 480mbps data rate, where as usb 1.0 has only 12mbps.

connect your usb and use your windows update that should solve the problem
