If you use just a tiny bit of thought then you can download whatever you want from Froswire which is entirely free, has access to all of the same files as Limewire because it uses the same file sharing network, has all of the features of Limewire Pro, and has a variety of other features that even Limewire Pro lacks. If you use just a tiny bit of thought when you're browsing through things that you may want to download then all of the viruses, malware, and other various things you certainly don't want infecting your computer will stick out like a sore thumb if you have the most minuscule shred of common sense and an eighth of an ounce of computer literacy. The slow downs that are sometimes associated with Limewire and Frostwire are due to the fact that both of them are Java programs and as such the longer you keep them open the more RAM they hog. Also you may notice a slow down in your internet browsing or while using an instant messaging program while running Limewire or Frostwire. This is because you have not bothered to change the default settings and you are allowing the program to use the maximum speed of your internet connection to upload and download files. You can quickly and easily solve that by limiting your allowed upload and download speed to whatever you feel is reasonable.

Even while paying attention to what you download you may accidentally download the occasional file that is infected with a virus so I advise that you use a good anti-virus program with on access scanning. Sometimes a virus will have been bound to a perfectly good installation file for a program that you really needed to use. In that situation what you can do is manually extract the contents of the .exe file using a program such as 7zip then use your anti-virus to scan the files that were contained in the exe file and destroy the virus without running it. After that you can run your now virus free program from the assorted files that were left over from the exe you extracted after the virus was dealt with.

If you do decide to use file sharing networks then I suggest that you also get a good encryption program so just in case The Man seizes your hard drive you won't have any potentially incriminating evidence available for him to use against you. You should of course also use the latest version of PeerGuardian to reduce your risk of The Man gaining enough evidence against you to authorize the seizure of your hard drive in the first place. Before you violate The Man's laws by downloading copyrighted or illegal things from file sharing networks you should make a realistic assessment as to the chances of your getting caught versus the chances of you living a carefree life unburdened by the expenses of just about anything that can be transferred over the internet. The Man has virtually unlimited resources at his disposal to make sure that you don't get away with downloading Weird Al's newest album and you have very limited resources for a defense lawyer. Choose carefully and be prepared to face the consequences for whatever actions you take.

Well, it all depends on your computer, but if you computer is good in terms of speed and capacity, then it will depend on the number of files that youu are downloading from Limewire,, suggested is 3 files (music at a time), more than that might make your system slow, in terms of connecting to the Internet and browsing, I do not think it will affect other software applications speed.

It might make your computer a bit slower, but nothing to worry about at all. It slows down other programs when you have it open if that means anything to you. When you are not using LimeWire at all, it really helps the computer to shut it down(close it).

Yes it does. If I'm on here for example....or sending a mail to someone, I have to exit limewire. Otherwise everything takes ages.

It depends on how old your computer is. It might slow it down a tad, but it shouldn't be THAT bad, and it certainly shouldn't crash your PC (unless you've got one that's stone-aged). But just open it, find what you want, and exit it (don't leave it open when you're not using it) and you should be fine! Just be sure you install the latest version, and be sure you've got your Java up to date.
