Ipods have a shut-off mechanism that stops the imput of energy once your energy bar is full, so leaving your Ipod on charge for hours won't actually damage your battery. But what happens is if you leave your Ipod on charge for longer than the time required, the charge will slowly drop from 100% to 99% to 98% etc... so if you leave your Ipod on charge for a whole day, when you turn it on next it may only be charged three-quarters full.

But it won't hurt your battery.
