My question pertained to whether slavery was to blame for the number of police complaints by black offenders to have been substianted only 8 times out of 713- 1.13% substantiated.
from the Government statistics found here:
http://www.blink.org.uk/subcat.asp?key=199&grp=55

Furthermore, black activist Ken Barnes stated that, "..."This even affects the way black people today perceive themselves. Ask people what it is to be black. Black is associated with rap music, with being lazy and uninterested in society. These are traceable back to the racism of slavery." from below.

Therefore, the question was to generate debate on whether slavery can be a justifiable reason for lying to the police.
What are your views?

The question is- should it have been deleted or should we be allowed to debate FACTS in an adult manner?

No it should not have been, but that's the way it is. For a more rational debate I suggest you visit tightrope. I notice that now you've got to register in order even to read the forum posts.

This question is garbled. It focuses on black people with an African ancestry, implies very heavily that they are all lazy and have a chip on their shoulder due to historical reasons. Most people in the UK have ancestors who were peasants or serfs, they were virtually slaves, their lives were of servitude and they had to pay the master his tribute. This is not considered a good reason to lie to the police. However, all criminals lie to the police when questioned. The question you are missing is; "Why should people trust the police?" If people from a particular social or racial background feel that they are being victimized by the police, why do you think they would trust the police? There are more young black men with an African ancestry, stopped and searched by police than any other social or racial group. What does that tell you? What do you think it makes these young men think? How do you think they feel?

Maybe your question was deleted as you seem to be linking 2 totally unrelated facts.

It is hard to think of any justifiable reasons for lying to the police.
But I would guess black people try just as hard to justify lying as you would, or I would, or the police would.

My view is you should seek anger management.

Ironic, isn't it? I wrote a question (more than once) restating headline on Yahoo's Front Page, and had it deleted as against community guidelines? Yet Yahoo can discuss it on their news page?
I finally figured out that, you can ask a question BUT you CANNOT INCLUDE YOUR opinion. That's what Yahoo seems to forbid. Not an entirely open forum here.

snooze city...on the race question. Lots of racists. Realize it! Two wrongs don't make it right.

That is their history my friend, and that you are not going to change! We didn't allow blacks to marry and have normal households!

There are a million reasons that people reationalize their lying to the police.

With the exception of Bush, almost all children lie to get out of trouble not to get into it! I suspect one could use that reason.

This is an excuse police give on one of their websites

1. Lying may be a legitimate tool of defense, as in protection under repressive societies and regimes. It is crucial to see the distinction between the free-loading liar and a liar whose deception is a strategy for survival in a corrupt society.

The only reason for lying to the police is to avoid being caught. To say that slavery is the reason for it is a cop out. Place the blame where it lies.

People shouldn't be breaking the law in the first place. If we didn't, there would be no need for this kind of question and debate.

"whether slavery can be a justifiable reason for lying to the police?"
If your goal is to continue the black stereotype, of course!
What has slavery got to do with lying to the police, are you trying to justify it to yourself, or the rest of the world!
I would (as would most) lie to the police for their own personal gain, but don't try and say it's because of an injustice against some long ago forgotten relative.
An excuse is not a reason, its an excuse.

It is a very sensitive issue, that may be best to only ponder in our own lives.
There is nothing so important that we might hurt someones feelings over.
