Check out the local churches and newspaper for an al-anon or al-ateen meeting. They help with family members of alcoholics.

hello there, sorry to hear about your dad, yes it seems as if he is drinking entirely too much... Perhaps you should talk to him. Find out what seems to cause his drinking and you two could work on it together... It could be an experience that could bring you closer together... I am sure you are concerned for your fathers health and that is great... Another thing you can protect him of is drinking and driving... is there always a DD available, and are you there if he needs you for a ride? Not only could he be hurting himself and his loved ones (you obviously) if he gets in an accident, but also the other people involved if such an incident did occur. there are programs available, such as AA. I would recommend just sitting down and expressing your concern first and foremost. Once he sees how much you do care and don't want to see him hurt he may change his ways... Good luck to ya! and God Bless!

Most people will tell you to confront him, but we all know well that this is very difficult, especially since he'll most likely reject your concern.
Intervention by numbers is most effective.
However, have a plan ready before this. Most alcoholics will not readily show up to AA upon request. If you have the money, look into a rehab center.

You are so very, very right. Your concern is that of an intelligent and caring family member. Tell a Doc, (you can do so in confidence), he will understand and at least advise you of what path to take to help your Dad. P.S., although he might not admit it, your Dad knows he is in trouble.

You did not cause your father's drinking problem and there probably is not much you can do about it. Just be there for him if he ever wants help with it. Maybe praying for him will help both of you.

Then ask them for their #, so you can talk to someone about your concerns with your father. Good luck.
