Now that the House has passed a bill to get us out of the war by Sept. of next year...Bush is accusing the Dems. of political theater and is most likely going to brush off his rarely used veto stamp? So, is Bush insulting us by scoffing at the will of the people? What do you think about his hijacking of our democracy? And do you feel his actions reflect that of a leader of a democracy or that of a dictator? Do you think that his vetoing of this bill will hurt or help Republican chances in 2008?

The reason I say that a mandate was given was because the biggest issue to voters was the Iraq war...and since the Dems one...I consider that a mandate. It's called "critical thinking".

I wasn't planning on giving you a "thumbs down"...but now that you mention it...lol, j/p. I have done a lot of "proactive" things for my country, I volunteer, I pay my taxes, I have never commited a crime, I am about to get my degree in Nursing, etc. Need I go on? Military people are not the only people who do well for our country and just so you know my bf served in Iraq for 13 months and I supported him the whole time, wrote letters everyday, sent many packages and stayed faithful...I did much better than most of the military wives who were getting their husband's paycheck. I am as red, white and blue as they come, be careful on who you pass judgement on. Because, believe it or not, liberals are good Americans too.

Our militant conservatives may wish to brush up on their reading, such as this excerpt from the Declaration of Independence. Oh yeah, we have the right to overthrow Bush RIGHT NOW.
"Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
In case you missed it ... that is "alter or to abolish."
P.S. Serving in the military doesn't instantly make you some kind of patriotic hero. How many people are lured in by the "selfish" reasons of enlistment bonuses, free schooling and world travel? Yeah, there are a lot of them.

Mandate?
Did you forget about the 49% of the voting population that supported and still support our Republicans in Washington? Last November the Democrats reclaimed control of Congress with 51% of the vote. That is not a mandate by any means.

You are confused. It is the Democrats, my dear, that have hijacked this country. Whatever happened to the promises of bi-partisanship, of moving forward. Every action that the Democrats have taken since January have been with focusing on the past, not a thing about our futures and bipartisanship, welll they forgot that little promise. As for vetoing this bill, if and when this happens, it is the right thing to do. 2008? Remember those Republicans that put you over the top last November? Well, they have to be getting pretty tired of this all or nothing political game playing and witch hunt that your crew in DC is on. 2008 may be a rebirth for the Republicans and if that happens, the Dems have no one to blame but themselves. Again.

This Bill barely passed through the House the vote was 218-212, not very strong. The bill would have not made it through the Senate, esp since Hilliary voted for the war and is looking for a resolution to it. Some mandate. Since there are 11 more Democrats than Republicans in the House, someone had to cross party lines.
Scoffing at the people? People like yourself are helping the Republican Party everyday, you really encourage us to get out and vote, thank you.

Yes of course, we should have a national poll before the President or Congress ever take any action!! We'll all be in great shape running the country that way!
I voted in the last election........I DID NOT see a referendum on the popularity of the war my friend!

i leave in october for the navy, i serve my country and my president. Dont ***** about a war that you are not fighting hippie. Our armed forces are all volunteer, and if your against the war and want out, say your a gay, theyll kick you out and you can join the peace parades.
Freedom isnt free.
And michaels exactly WHAT high crimes or misdeamenors have bush or cheney committed that they can be impeached for, besides you not liking the war?

We're not a true Democracy. People do not have a direct influence in what our country does. It would be disruptive if we take a poll every time a decision needs to be made.

If we leave Iraq before they can defend their selves we will be causing a slaughter of thousands of people not unlike what happened in Viet Nam. Over 500 thousand people were slaughtered there because we cut and ran. And if we let the radical Islamic fundamentalists take over Iraq's oil fields it will raise havoc with the whole free world not just us. I hate war as much as you do. But I will also fight for the rights of individual freedom over terrorism and tyranny with my last breath. And will back our president and our military in every way I can to squash this evil. We didn't start this they did but with Gods help we will finish it.
