do they reflect Gatsby's nature? in what way? what do people think of them? why we almost never see Gatsby himself?

they hide emptiness. the scene in the library with all the books that aren't even cut open (ie he hasn't read any of them) makes for good essay quotes. also, he's trying to draw daisy to one of them. you could say that they're a reflection of what he thinks daisy is like, or will like. that also explains why he doesn't bother to go to them himself: it's not what HE likes.
