Check your PC's spec's and make sure they are more than needed to run the game. If everything is ok there, try to uninstall and reinstall the game.

Have you updated any programmes since the last time you played it successfully? If so they could be interfering with the game, so you could try system restore first.

It may also be worth checking the developers site to see if there are any patches for the game too.
