bring back guitar solos! or guitars. I mean look athe songs in your top 20. how many of them use instruments and how many are synthesised. Also originality. If the dj's out there aren't ripping off, swallowing whole and vomiting up classic songs they're doing the same thing to each others' songs.
I heard a house version of in bloom by nirvana the other day. I wanted to go on a dj killing spree but alas refrained as jail didn't look to appealing right about now.

I think the real things that matter the most in music seems to matters the least in current music industry. I mean, back then, one needs to be a great vocalist and instrumentalist to be a great musician. And then there's also great composers and lyricist. And thats all that matters, you don't need to wear a truck load of bling bling or dressed half naked to sell records.
As for today, I don't see much attention is being paid to all this basic things. Many popular artist today can't even sing or write their own songs. All they do is put profanity in their lyrics, sing about sex and dressed half or almost naked and they becomes popular. I don't see much young great guitarist or vocalist that gets the spotlight. Instead its those disfunctional artist that gets all the media attention.

I'd build a time machine and travel back into the 80's thats how.
Todays music scene has actually never been so boring and it is utter talentless.
I am in a band, we do various genres: Prog metal, Death metal, Hard rock/Grunge.
So, I would promote ourselves. But I would also get some other bands going up to (I know they would be uber hard to find though, every trying to get signed by writing music from the ****)

i would say the sound quality of music. Compared the sound of the cd in the 90's and the cd's released in year 2000+ they have different fidelity, the 90's sounds good. I hope that all recordings will be done in dolby digital, direct stream digital (SDS), or Super audio cd's format.

What is missing from music is heart, man pure heart. If alot of musicians had heart and a backbone, music would be alot more interesting and fun. What is also missing is music savvy consumers. We only buy what is shoved down our throats.

originality is what we need - cabaret, tango all the passionate dance music that we seem to have forgotten - and btw, the first band i would get on my label would be kiss kiss.

if i had 20million pounds i would sign the most original bands and give free 3-track EPs out to random people, they could then if they wanted to look up the band and buy a studio album.
