Some BMW have a body kit made by BMW they call it a M-Tech body kit or spoiler.

Some BMW models are M-Tech models where the body looks sporty and the trim is upgraded from the factory like sports seats/18" Alloy wheels/aluminium internal trim.

Check it is an M-tech model not just a body kit that has been added after the factory.

There is an other model range call M range, M3/M5/M6 these are different altogether, Bigger engines, faster and start at £40,000.00 ish.

M-Tec is the bodykit that comes with some 3 series BMW's. It has different wheels and front and side skirts but it is nearly impossible to tell the differnce between them both unless you are an expert. It is not the M3 it does not have a bigger engine, but is a styling addon that the buyer can choose when ordering the car from the dealer.

Geez... some of these answers are crazy.

M-tec is a package for the 325 prior to the M3 release in the US (1995). It looks just like an M3 except for seats and rear view mirrors I believe. It has nothing performance related, it is like a body kit package that looks like an M3.

M is the tuning division of BMW, the term is broadly used and can mean a bodykit or full blown engine conversion (similar to Alpina but inhouse)

MTEC has something to do with sensors, measurements and instrumentation. I didn't find much info, but you might get a useful link from this website:-
