What's happening with Political correctness?

My daughter was singing the old bangles song
"Walk Like an Egyptian" the other day and my son 12yrs was heard to say to her "You can't sing that, it's racist"!

So to gauge how mad the world is going.

Please comment as whether you disagree or agree that the song is racist (purely on that line of the song, as I don't know all the other lyrics to it).

It would also help if you put your country of origin as well, so I can make reference to each countries attitude?

Yes political correctness has gone up the wall but unfortunately until recently it was only the complainers who were mad. Now we are seeing 12 year old boys worrying unhealthily about things that they think or say.
I do not agree that the Bangles song is racist and I doubt that any Egyptian would particularly as it has reference to history and not to modern Egypt. However a poll of local government authorities on this issue would almost certainly come back with the following recommendations:
1. The Bangles should be banned from music for racial intolerance

2. People should now stop wearing bangles as a protest to their blatant racial prejudice.

This PC thing will be the downfall of us all. It has made it impossible to identify problems among races without being labeled racist. I am not PC at all I still call it like I see it. That is not a racist song at all.

All this PC mumbo jumbo is just pussifying America, I say what I want and if it offends someone so be it, they need to grow up and get some thicker skin, it is a tough world out there and if you truly get upset by non PC comments you are going to have one hell of a tough time.

LoL. Ok, I'm from the United States.

#1. I believe political correctness is out of control, sure. But so is plenty of political incorrectness. (racists, etc)

#2. I don't think that lyric could possibly be racist.

"Walk like an Egyptian" which refers to drawing of ancient Egyptians in poses where their arms and legs only appear in right angles to their connected body part.

I don't imagine any modern day person living in Egypt walks like that, although I imagine there could be people gullible enough to believe this.

Sidenote: I think many of us want to please EVERYONE or nearly everyone, I suppose that is a symptom of our affluence.

I believe something is racist only if used in a matter to make people feel bad. I don't think the song is racist from the line you just gave me.

no i don't think its racist and neither did i think baa baa black sheep was, or black board as far as I'm concerned there colours, did we kick up a fuss if the teacher said pass the white chalk knowing coloured people called us chalky, i think the world has gone mad, and every one knows the paintings of Egyptians and the way their arms were and the way it made them look as if that was the way they walked. i can understand people been offended when nasty names are directed at them but not Innocent words in songs or poems or everyday things..uk

Utterly loony in the UK- especially London. We're living in 1984, friend- or more likely Animal Farm.

The Orwellian Blairite PC-sheep with their constant bleating is ridiculous- and still theey've not combed the woold from their eyes.

Four legs good, two legs baaaa-aaaad!
Labour good, BNP baaa-aaaaad!
Reparations good, slavery baaaa-aaa-aaaad!
Pennace good, denial baaa-aaa-aaad!

And still no progress on the nations' metaphoric 'windmill'.
I'll be proudly be voting BNP and putting a stop to this utter nonsense.
I most respectfully suggest you do the same.
