I guess I'll buy it if I have to, but it seems like they're trying to cheat me into buying it by saying it's the ONLY way to make your phone an mp3 player. I can't imagine there is no other way to transfer music. Does anyone know?

What kind of phone do you have? It can vary b/w phones. I have the Black Q from Verizon and the Samsung a930, both are easy to transfer, the Q I just load the music on through the miniSD or the cable provided. The Samsung I had to download an mp3 converter to get the files into WMA (since that is all the a930 plays without hacking into the hidden menus-I did the hack, but it was not worth it) then put them on the microSD card.
