I've been a few times, from Calgary to Vancouver through the rockies. Via rail doesn't travel that route any longer, but there's a tourist train (Rocky Mountaineer) that does. The scenery is breathtaking, there's many things to see for the entire trip. I spent almost all the time in the dome cars. I'd love to go again, but the tourist train is quite expensive and it's a two day trip both ways. In my opinion, nothing can quite compare to rail travel. Someday I like to travel some of the narrow gauge trains in Switzerland.

The longest i've got spent is merely over 24 hours on the prepare, inspite of the undeniable fact that it became in Canada (from Toronto to northern Ontario), so i won't be in a position to communicate to what the trains are like interior the US. there are in all possibility "sleeper" vehicles so in case you pick to pay greater you may have a mattress, or you are able to merely sleep on your seat. The nutrients on the Canadian prepare became quite overpriced, and not all that super. i've got taken shorter prepare journeys (Toronto to Montreal) and continually introduced my own nutrients/beverages. there have been various stops, however the prepare merely stayed in each and every station for a jiffy - only sufficient time for each guy or woman to get on. i understand a few schedules are greater effective than others (ie they by making use of-bypass some stops reckoning on once you pick to go away/arrive). in my view i admire the prepare - it rather is a huge thank you to be sure the panorama while not having topersistent, plus you are able to continually arise and stretch in case you should. some thing else that usually fascinates me is the graffiti that has a tendency to persist with the tracks interior the greater populated aspects. it is rather exciting to be sure IMO.

Yes. When I was little, my family rode from Illinois to New Jersey by train. It was really fun. Lately, though, I just take short train trips, either between downstate Illinois and Chicago, or between the suburbs and Chicago. Not nearly as exciting as the train adventure I had when I was a kid.

Never in America, I saw too many "runaway train" or "hijacked train" type of movies. Really crappy ones.
But in Europe, it's a great way to travel. Try the TGV in France, it goes up to 200 mph. Zero accidents since the beginning, in 1981.

The longest trip I've been on was from Brisbane to Sydney (Australia). I wouldn't call this a "train trip", but it was with my sister and it was kinda cool.

yes. first and only train ride was in Korea last year. It was from Daegu to Kyongju, and I loved it. It went through the countryside, and periodically- and if you caught it- you would see giant Buddha statues on the hillside. amazing.
