It has done more harm because we are no longer shocked by so many things that used to be taboo so we have to reach further for the shock value.
For example, it used to be if someone used an obscenity in public they were sort of shunned in a way, or at least thought of as somewhat of a loose cannon as a person. They were avoided by others that did not approve of it. Now, you can hardly find a song on a pop station that does not have a 'cuss' word in it.

The media is provind this stuff and saying it's not our fault, yet there are many points of evidence to prove that what you are exposed to becomes your norm, that doesn't mean YOU have to be the one to expose ME to it (and by it's nature the news is designed to reach the most people possible so don't tell me not to watch)....if you get my gist.

Good luck, HTH

Personally I think more harm than good...yes it is good in that there are some stories that need telling, but there are those that do not and should not be told. Example I once saw on t.v. network ? I forget after 9/11 though, they had experts calculate up the exact point down to the exact street corner and in front of what building mind you of where a dirty bomb or nuclear device would do the most damage financially in N.Y.! To me I'd call that story treasonous, but they cower behind freedom of the press. Giving away secrets like that so detailed any would be terrorist, crazy & disgruntled person or militia member could do something catastrophic to the country, city, economy, people in general. Millions of people and perhaps billions in $$$...to me that qualifies as treason and they should've been held accountable for it. But like I said freedom of the press saves them. Then there's the stories on the infectious diseases and what would happen in a pandemic. Those types of stories do nothing more than cause panic and anxiety in people and give terrorists and every other crazy around ideas. We are constantly bombarded these days by images of terrible things that should never see the light of day, ideas only a crazy person could appreciate. Beliefs that show just how far apart we as humans really are.... that do more to drive us apart than bring us closer. I say media today has done immeasurable harm to society.

I agree with this thesis very much, and I think there is more evidence for it as well. Many evils have emerged as a result of the media's pervasiveness. Bullying and violence is one example. Teenagers see violent movies and start thinking they are superman. It is easier for young children to see inappropriate things such as porn. The media also wastes a lot of our time, and deprives us of the ability to fully concentrate and dedicate our time to school and things that matter. There is really a lot more for this topic....

Blaming media for ills of society is a cop-out
This is a recent article by Hugh Mackay. it is pretty long to type all of it in here, so I'll shorten it.
The media are regularly attacked for their negative influence on society, especially for lowering the moral tone by being too permissive, increasing the levels of violence in the community, and recently, for being part of the dumbing down of Australia (<-- replace with whatever Western country you want). This is a big call, can we find evidence to justify this?
Many of us persist in the naive belief that when we open a newspaper or turn on the tv, we are like blank slates on which media - especially the advertisers - write their persuasive messages....It's tempting to characterise ourselves as media victims, and I hate to spoil the fun. But perhaps we are in danger of using this argument as a cop-out : what about our own part in shaping the society we live in? (and who controls the off button anyway)? In fact, the effects of the media are less frightening than we imagine....Contrary to our beliefs about the effects of TV programs on the level of community violence, research has shown that when TV is introduced to a city, the rate of violent crime goes down - partly because when people are at home watching TV, they're not outside bashing each other...I'm no apologist for the media, but it saddens me to hear people - especially parents - talking as if the media has more effect on us than we have on each other. There's certainly no evidence for that. We choose which media to consume, and we take whatever we want out of those encounters. What we mostly want is something to distract, stimulate or tranquillise us, or to comfort us by reinforcing our prejudices or indulging our fantasies. Brainwashing? I don't think so. What do the media do to us? Wrong question. Try this one instead: What do we do with the media?

No.
Just living human kind were having communication problems with misinterpretation, miscommunication, communication failures and communication break-down in one new universal language and one speech living in misery in planet of apes.
When they could not even differentiate between fantasy and reality or ghostly stories in planet of apes.
Were exposing their misery on the blunders and slip-ups with human errors on the creation of living human kind into mankind of intelligent design in planet of apes.
Were at loss and stranded in planet of apes.
