I used to teach second grade, but now I teach a special ed. resource class. My son has an IEP. He is now mainstreamed but when he was in second grade he was in a resource class. His curriculum was based on his IEP. I am not sure what you wanted to know, but for my son this set up worked very well. He is now on grade level taking general ed classes. Every child is an individual. Every school varies in services and quality of teachers and services. I hope that if you are unhappy with your child's classes, that you will let his teacher know and hopefully, she will work with you to make your child's learning experience the best it can be.

IEP is not a class. it is and indvidualized education plan for kids with special needs, ie autism learning disabled, adhd, deaf etc. they can be either in an all spec ed school or class or in a reg class with modifcation and iep supports. to learn more go to
www.ed.gov see IEP and IDEA the Indviduals with Disability Education ACt and also for help and legal questions for free go to www.nichcy.org a clearinghouse on disabilities and youth and us spec ed.

not now but 2 of my children did have ieps when they were in 2nd grade....one with severe learning disablities(using the resource room) and one for speech/language issues(in regular class except for speech/lang therapy)
ive also been an educator for over 25 yrs and have dealt with numerous children with ieps and their parents....all children are different and all children learn differently(just like adults) and all need to be treated as children first and deal with their "disablities" secondly to their childhood.
