what sort of battery are you talking about?? the BIOS battery which keeps track of time or a laptop battery? well to change the BIOS battery all you have to do is take off your computers case and there you will see a little battery on your motherboard... all you do is take it out and then take it down to your local computer store and ask them what type its is... and if its a laptop battery the just un clip it and replace it with the new one.. and again if you don't know what type it is then take it to a computer store and they will tell you

OK, get a good light so you can see and learn. Most have a little spring holding the battery and with a light you will see. You can use a fingernail, small knife, sharp point fingernail file, etc. When you move that spring back the battery will pop out and hit you in the eye. :-p
To know what battery it use look. You can see the numbers. Most are CR-2032 3V
The battery is for CMOS and not BIOS, so the computer may be slow getting it's stuff together but will boot. If, it need a time change it may tell you to enter BIOS to do this. It tell you what you need to know.
Also, as long as a computer is plugged in and you not turn off the switch in back the Power Supply always keeps voltage on the CMOS, just in case the Battery dead. Just do not change the battery when the computer running, not that it would hurt, but, less running less something mess up.

Are you talking about the 3v button cell? Usually you can see the clip that holds it. The 2032 battery is 99¢ at Home Depot. Don't forget that when you put in the new battery, you will need to reconfigure your BIOS!
Good Luck!
