A friend and I will be going to a show at the White Rabbit in San Antonio next month and are wondering what would be the closest and more inexpensive hotels to stay at in the region?

Cool. The White Rabbit is on St. Mary's st, kinda near downtown. There are all sorts of hotels in that area. Unfortunately, because it is in the downtown area, they are all pretty expensive.
The best advice I can give you is to look for something along I 35 or 281. There are Motel 6's and Red Roof Inn's all along there.
If you stay by the airport, you can take 281 south to st mary's st. in like 10 minutes. So don't be limited to just the St. Mary's area. There is Comfort Inn, Airport Inn and Execustay Suites by the airport, and none of them are too hard on the wallet.
