Grease, oil, tar
Method 1: Use powder or chalk absorbents to remove as much grease as possible. Pre-treat with detergent or nonflammable dry cleaning solvent, or liquid shampoo. Wash in hottest water safe for fabric, using plenty of detergent.
Method 2: Rub spot with lard and sponge with a non-flammable dry cleaning solvent. Wash in hottest water and detergent safe for fabric.
Older, set-in stains will often come out in the wash after being pretreated with a solution of 3 tablespoons white vinegar and 2 tablespoons liquid detergent in 1 quart (1 liter) warm water. Rub the solution into the stain, then blot it dry before washing.
Good Luck !

Dawn dish detergent - the concentrated kind. It cuts grease and oil like nobody's business. You may need to get the clear as opposed to the blue depending on the color of the jumper (the blue has never stained any of my clothes but you never know). I always put a big glob on my stain when the garment is dry and rub it in really well then let it sit for an hour or so (or overnight occasionally but you may not want to try that if you use the blue detergent). Then wash it as normal. I eat a Subway salad every day for lunch with vinegar and olive oil on it and I am sooooooooooo clumsy. I have to do this almost every time I take a shirt off! When will I ever learn?!

My husband is one of the worst for this ,getting oil stains on his best jumper´s.I use 1 tablespoon of baking Powder with a little water & leave on the stain for 10 min.s it normally lifts straight out , I also rub with the good old fashioned soap bar you now the one for washing clothes, and always use cold water as the more heat you add to a stain the harder it is to remove

I know this sounds a bit daft, but sometimes if you use the cleanser that you use on your face to take your makeup off. I've done this and its gentle and yet it seems to disolve the oil. (obviously, I wouldn't try this if your cleanser it bright purple!!) Good luck!

you could try ironing it - brown paper on stain then iron.
failing this, you could try using fairy liquid (other brands are available lol)
