It depends on the company policy. I evaluate my subordinates on a weekly basis but they only get an "official" evaluation annually.

Unofficially or officially? Supervisors will always be evaluating you and especially if they are working with you everyday. But as far as the company is concerned beyond your immediate supervisor, that just depends on when the annual/semi/or quarterly evaluations are required.
