NO and yes. They do run and install programs but its more then just one or a few. They have a large arsenal of programs to help with different problems.
They can also navigate though regedit. Thats were all virues or 99.9% of viruses implant lines of code to activate them self on start up , or update them selfs and do hundreds of other things.
So computer specialists can look through regedit and immediately know if there is a problem. Me I know regedit well. I delete lines all the time to get rid of viruses and spy ware and stuff. I can also edit regedit to do things on my computer that other programs cannot or to fix errors.
edited--- They also know dos and all the nick nacks of a PC so unless its a terrible menacing virus they can get rid of it fast.

No... they do something else. If you're computer is infected then chances are that your antivirus program is also corrupt and will probably just give you a false negative. Remember, it let the bug through in first place! The right way to scan a computer is with a clean computer; there are certain online scans available. If there are more than a couple of viruses - especially the ones marked as "uncleanable" then it's probably easier to kill the partition and start from scratch. Remember - even if you remove a virus from a computer, the damage has already been done to sometimes thousands of lines of code in the registry. Because of this damage, removing certain viruses only results in them coming back by rewriting themselves. If I encounter more than 1 virus - and I mean a real one - not just some bug that changes your fonts and desktop, then I usually start from scratch.
aztecdra…: Incorrect move. That antivirus CD is not up to date. In fact it can never be up to date because as I'm writing this - literally - there are new viruses being created. In fact even with up to date security software installed, you're only about 45% safe. It really is a false sense of security. Furthermore, no professional computer tech would in his right mind recommend Norton. Norton is nothing more than bloatware.

yes that's the answer just run your current anti-virus if you want a more trough search of virus leave your anti-virus CD inside and restart the computer and it will ask you if you want to run the CD or start the windows normally.
I recommend Norton. Later use the disk defragmenter tool.
If norton is such bloatware why is the most used antivirus software and ready installed in most of the new computers (I don't think its because its the cheapest and its not)

They do run the same software, but do things to the pc to help it do it's job.
For instance, we might run the scan at boot-up before all other programs load. /
I commonly stop the services of unnecessary programs, turn of the system recovery app, and stop the trash to prevent reinfection.
WE might use more than one scanner. And use forums to research techniques to surgically remove the problem.

Simply use portable anti virus software. It runs from outside your PC & remove the virus. It can be kept on a Pendrive.
