why cant we stop all the imports from coming here?

Because people buy them. It's that simple.

I live in the U.S. and this nation simply could not function without imported manufactured goods because the U.S. doesn't manufacture enough stuff. Even a U.S. built car is full of imported parts. Boeing's latest jet will be assembled in America but the wings and most of the fuselage is built in Asia. The economy is truly global and the low cost providers get the work. It sucks but that's the way it is.

Because our economy is dependent on them. People want cheap plastic products, and imports are usually cheaper than goods made here. We are importing more and more goods every year, and if we stopped then the price of things would skyrocket.

Also, the government is motivated politically to continue imports because it improves relations with countries.

Imports of what? Most books are printed outside the US now because it is too expensive to print here. With hardcovers already costing 25 bucks, I dont think we could afford to buy American books. Pax - C.

Because we as Americans are too cheap to pay what it would cost to make something here. Why pay someone here 7.25 an hour when we can have a 5 year old in indonesia make it for 23 cents a day??? Not too mention how picky we are about safe and sanitary working conditions!
