I reccomend white vinegar. We have a new puppy too! I put the white vinegar in the water in my steam machine and don't even use the detergent and run it over my floors. After it dries I can't even smell the vinegar the and puppy smell is gone too. Plus white vinegar is acidic enough to be antibacterial, and it is really good for my family because my 2 youngest kids have allergies and eczema and if I don't get all the detergent out of the carpet really well the residue still left breaks them out. Going over the carpet with the vinegar solution can help out on that because it neutralizes the detergent (and the detergent residue can also attract more dirt if left in the carpet) since the detergent is a base and the vinegar is an acid. I SWEAR by vinegar and have found TONS of household uses for it since bleach is too harsh on my babies' allergies and all.

The methods you used never work, try mixing one cup of White Vinegar to half a bucket of hot water, then sponge this solution on the urine spot a few times wihtout soaking the spot down to the padding, if you get the padding wet it will still smell, which in this case this is what happened when you used the rug doctor and urine cleaners, after following the Vinegar method, you then rinse with warm water, then use one quarter cup of Wisk to a half bucket of water with just a few tablespoons of Vinegar, sponge lightly over the spot leave for about a minute then rinse with cool water and blot out as much moisture as you can with white or light colored towel, no dark colors as they will bleed onto carpet, you then place a dry clean towel over the spot and weight it down with some heavy object over night then in morning remove, you then sprinkle baking soda over the spot and leave for two days and then vacuum up, your stain and odor will be gone and carpet clean and fresh again. This method really works ! Good Luck !

You can try Nature's Miracle, or Simple Solution from the pet store, but, unfortunately, I think the smell is in the padding, and you won't be able to remove it. If he has been making mistakes for a long time, the smell could even be in the flooring.

Been there done that! Spend the extra money and get the carpet professionally steam cleaned - the rug machines you rent just don't do it. For future accidents try Urine Gone at $35.00 a bottle!! I just dare my dogs to make me have to use it - haha - it works. Tip I learned when I had my rugs steam cleaned peroxcide litely sprayed from a bottle will fade any remaining yellow stains on beige carpet.

I just had the same problem. Go to ebay - and search recipe urine. There is a recipe on there for $1 and it will be sent to you via email. It's really simple..something like, Ajax, vinegar, .... I can't remember exactly but it works. My sister in law used it for their weenie dog urine and it worked like a charm. She was at wits end!! She even used it on her hunter green carpet with no issue. I still have to try it for my daughters mattress...potty training!

Vinegar might help, but you will find that removing the carpet will be the best thing to do. We installed ceramic floors when we had a pet.
