I'm doing a comparative paper for a class and I was going to compare the original version of a movie to a newer one. It would be even cooler if I could find one with three versions.

My answer was mentioned in another question - how about Dangerous Liaisons/Valmont/Cruel Intentions?

I'm sure there are plenty from the classics, though, especially Shakespeare. Hamlet has been filmed at least FOUR times, with both Mel Gibson andKenneth Branagh making versions in the 90's. Taming of the Shrew also comes to mind - there were at least two movie versions under that name (one way back in the late 20's or early 30's, plus one in the 60's) plus the more modern 10 Things I Hate About You, which has the same take-a-girl-and-change-her theme.

Hope that helps!

Little Women, 1933, then 1949, and 1994. There is also an animated version that I did not include here. I don't know if you can still find the 1933 version, but there's a big chance you can get hold of the 1949 movie version of Louisa May Alcott's novel.

Treasure Island was also done more than twice: 1934, 1950, 1989 and 2002 (the 2002 version is I think made for TV.) Please note again that I do not include here the animated versions, and the Muppet version (which is one of my favorites.)

Here's another one which just came to mind: Knights of the Round Table (1953,) Camelot (musical 1967,) Excalibur (my favorite 1981,) First Knight (1995,) and King Arthur (2004.)

The Longest Yard has been made twice under that name and once under mean machine.
Are you sure you're not doing a paper on appropraition/transformation where you compare how one text has been appropriated to another eg west Side Story is Romeo and Juliet or Clueless is Jane Austen's Emma? Or even Bridget Jones's Diary is Austen's Pride and Prejudice?
just checking, don't want you to write about the wrong thing!

Believe it or not there's tthree different versions of the Wizard of Oz... The muppets version, the original and the Wiz. That's not even including the Return to Oz movie.

Also Midsummer's NIght Dream, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet have all been remade countless times, (cause every actor worth his salt wants to do Shakespeare).

King Kong has been remaded 3 times (originally in the 30s, then one in the 1970s, and the last one a few years ago)
