He's the only one on his team who's broken somebodies neck before. Thats got to count for something!

Great or Greatest? I'll play along.

If he was on the Saginaw Spirit he would be a great defenseman. As it is, he's neither.

Go Spirit! Go Steagle Colbeagle the Fighting Eagle!

Let me throw out some names for a discussion of the greatest defenseman in hockey.

Ray Bourque
Paul Coffey
Al MacInnis
Bobby Orr

Considering this question is the first I'd ever heard of Orpik, I would have to say he's not even close to the level of the quartet I mentioned.

You need to watch more hockey, bud. Orpik's not even the best defenseman on his team, much less the league. He's also at least 3 time zones from 'really good' so 'great' is a ways away.

He is definitelythe best defenseman with the last name Orpik. And with the name Brooks Orpik. Other than that he sucks.

At best Great, not sure I would say Great either. He is good, espically with the team. Clearly not the Greatest though. As to breaking a neck, that ISN'T a defensive move. Heck what next saying fighting is a defensive move if you get the better end of the trade-off because you take their player off the ice for 5 minutes as well?

Breaking someone's neck does not make you a great player.

It makes you a cheap shot.

That's all he is.

Past defencemen better than Orpik will EVER be:
Ray Bourque
Paul Coffey
Larry Robinson
Bobby Orr

Current defencemen who are better than Orpik will EVER be:
Nicklas Lidstrom
Scott Niedemayer
Chris Pronger
Dion Phaneuf
