I grew up in the fifties and early sixties We wore poodle skirts, penny loafers with pennies in the front slot, cardigan sweaters, black and white saddle oxfords with white sox, white and black slip -on flats(known as skimmers today)dresses with full skirts with heavy starched can-cans underneath(when you wore three or more your skirt stood out at least 3 feet making it difficult to sit down or pass someone in the hall at school) there were detachable collars that you used with your cardigan to make it look like you had a blouse underneath We also wore white blouses, sheath skirts and dresses, shirtwaist dresses with full skirts, headbands, and ponytail clasps Ponytails were one of the hair styles of the fifties The female adults of the fifties wore spike heels, shirtwaist dresses and suits, they wore their hair in the page boy style or really tightly curled Teen girls wore their hair this way also There were no panty hose at that time Hose were considered a luxury So when you bought some if you had a run in one leg you saved the good one for an emergency

Girls wore skirts and blouses or dresses. Girls didn't wear pants to school until the sixties..the late sixties.
The skirts were either full or straight and the tops were button front or sweaters. The shoes were Penny loafers or flats, sometimes heels.
Scarfs were popular as were stockings, socks and large jewelry.
The guys wore jeans with cuffs and tee-shirts, sweaters and button down shirts. Penny loafers and white socks.
If you have seen "Grease" then you have seen the fifties.
Older women wore "shirt waist" dresses or skirts and blouses and sweaters. Most of the time at home they wore "house" dresses. Almost all the time they wore heels or flats.

long dresses with tight waists google clothes from the fifties you might be able to find some at a local thrift store. they showed very little skin. but they were cool, you might not look so cool in them now, but if its for a school event or themed dance google it then go to a thrift store and maybe try fixing it up a little more 1990s or 2000s to add a little originality

I can tell you now, hardly anyone wore poodle skirts. That is just a campy take on the 50's Here is a site with the true clothes. You'll notice some look quite familiar today.

girls wore pink poodle skirts. The bad boys wore, blue jeans, white shirts, and black leather jackets(they were called greasers.) Anyone else would wear button down shirts, and nice pants. Girls had long skirts, and guys tucked in their shirts. They wore bright colors, at least compared to todays clothes.
