It still has not found a consistent direction yet and the deaths of Putin's critics are piling too high to ignore. Some power needs to be restored to the Duma (parliament) before dictatorship returns via the back door.

Excellent question after seeing all the childish rants posted. Putin has nationalized an oil company, closed up the free press and shut down a T.V. station for criticizing him and his cabinet It appears that his K.G.B. background in coming to the forefront. We have asked that he not sell weapons to those that wish democratic countries harm and well as England and many other democracies that have suffered terrorist attacks

news flash: russia never left the soviet days. In their "elections" there were always two candidates and one that everyone knew would win. They are still fascist just not communist. All the russian people have ever known is tyranny from the czar to stalin to Putin or whatever new guy and they will never seek anything new because they do not know what freedom is.

Russia's days of democracy are definitely waning. The question that's anyone's guess is will their growing nationalism focus on improving the average Russian's lot in life or will it focus on exporting their influence on Europe and especially the middle east?

Since we are the largest arms sellers in the world, and Reagan was selling arms to Iran, I think people ought to be a little more concerned about what we are doing and less about others!

A person I knew in Vietnam said this:

"He paused for a moment; I could see him trying to calm his breathing. He began to slowly read from the Wall, his eyes moving randomly over the panel. "David T. Hilton. William C. Langham. John A. Gibson. Richard Galan. Danny Lee Frye. Cecil D. Lamm. All these boys blown off the face of the Earth, because we just can't keep our noses out of what's happening on the other side of the world. Ever read George Washington's Farewell Address?"

I shook my head. "He told us not to concern ourselves with what other countries are doing to and amongst themselves. He said it would just get us mired in a big mess. But did we listen? Nooooo. He warned us! Jefferson warned us! Most all of the Founders warned us! John Quincy Adams, about thirty years later, said 'America does not go out in search of monsters to destroy.' Well, now we do, John Q." Col David Hackworth

Bush is too stupid to care. The re-evolving USSR poisoned and eradicated anyone who opposes their government.

Bush probably admires them for taking a tough stance against the opposition.
