Hi, I'm deciding which vacuum cleaner is a better buy, DYSON or KIRBY? Looking at comparing:
1). Prices?
2). Reliability?
3). Easy maintenance?
4). Value for money?

Anyone can comments? Thanks in advance.

The problem with Kirby is that they are street hustled by door to door sales reps hurting for a buck. So the price definitely varies but you may want to look on ebay to get a possibly lower price but keep in mind someone was suckered in to buying it. I myself have had both and currently own a Dyson and I am very happy with it. Its easy to maintain and no lugging around. The kirby is alittle more space consuming and requires just enough to frustrate you...

Unless they have changed Kirbys are HEAVY and awkward.
I just purchased an "Animal" two months ago from Dyson and I absolutely love it. It was $800.00, however the suction is awesome - I have two Chihuahuas and a boxer! Features: bag-less, ball rotation that corners great, the attachments allow you to sweep the stairs while leaving the sweeper at the bottom I can go all the way to the top without lugging! I'm 40, best sweeper I've every owned or used. My friend sold Kirbys a few years ago - I used one for a couple weeks and gave it back - wore me out using it! As for my $100.00 sweeper its in the next garage sale.

I have a Kirby. They are extremely expensive (about $1400 -12 years ago) and they practice a VERY hard sell. I got mine for about half price because I kept saying no. It works very well but is quite heavy. Parts and bags are very expensive too. I had a hose break after several years and it cost $50. They also told me I'd get a hardwood floor polisher which they never gave me. I think the company is uses very nasty practices but the vacuum is a good one. I've never had a vacuum last this long before.

Get an ORECK...start at $300 new (or $50 in eBay!) Light Weight 8-9# Excellent Suction. Cheap Bags. Hepa Filtration, blah blah blah

I also have 2 Kirbys that I bought from the son of a Kirby sales manager ($125 each!) They will suck the nap right off the carpet, just a bit heavy.

Dyson is the best for suction power, but price wise it is very expensive, Kirby use to be good but I have heard complaints about them lately.
