General Franks said that if terrorists attack us again, we may have to set the Constituition aside for a bit so that our leaders can fix everything. The government's supposed to protect us, right, so what's so wrong about just letting them do their job?

I personally don't think it's a big deal if it means we are all safer.

this is why I believe the United States will be a high tech version of Nazi Germany -

Well the evidence is just way too enormous to dismiss , ever heard of Operation Flower Garden ? Well if the answer is no , Operation Flower Garden is a military operation to take Americans from there homes and place them in " camps " . Which by the way F.E.M.A. has a major contract and currently they are building these so called camps all over the U.S. to hold upwards of a million people each . Everyone in the U.S. will be required to carry a National I.D. card by 2008 . There is also a plan being unleashed to put a micro chip in every human being by 2012 , that will be able to identify them and people will be able to pay for items using this chip inserted under your skin . This micro chip is called a R.F.I.D. , the way this is being implemented is under the guise of young children to not be taken away and so we can track terrorists . This however will eventually by 2012 , be used to track every American citizen and to wipeout paper money and instead use electronic money - just numbers on a screen . There is talk of more security cameras , air drones patrolling American city's and check points no matter where you live , to go from city to city . Then we have the world government which will be installed be 2012 . This will happen when there is so much conflict all over the world that the U.N. will be overwhelmed , and the world government will be formed with a one world currency . There is already talk of a global economic collapse by as early as 2008 to get rid of paper money and install this world government sooner or perhaps it will happen because of WW 3 which I believe and many other people as well , that it will happen by 2012 . The camps I mentioned are already being used on T.V. on a show I bet people have heard of - the show 24 . So when these camps do become operational people will be willing to go , instead of putting up a fight . These camps however are nothing but death camps with films all over the Internet showing how new massive gas chambers are already working and installed . This is not meant to scare you or anyone , but to make people WAKE UP .

This is a serious enough problem to not just write it off with some pithy easy answer. But I'll do my best.

Setting the constitution aside means that you have absolutely zero rights as human being or citizen of this country.
I think the problem is this: When you say we will all be 'safer', you seem to be using the word safe to apply only to your immediate physical safety. Yes I suppose to some small degree we would all be safer if we did exactly as our government demanded of us, with force. The police and military could randomly stop anyone and check their Identification, detain them without telling anyone for an indefinite amount of time, in a secret location. Or if thought it was justified they could gun you down in the street.
Martial means military, and before you decide you want to live in a society run by the military you should do a bit of research. If they decide to relocate you to a camp, they can.
If they decide you won't eat today, you won't.
If they decide you are a terrorist, for ANY reason, no matter it's validity, you are dead meat. Think about what that really means.
Martial Law gives you immediate physical safety? Maybe.
Maybe there won't be any riots.
Maybe everyone with a gun will just hand it over.
But then again maybe not.

Not to mention that putting your life in the hands of the current administration is like playing Russian roulette with all the chambers loaded.

I am in Iraq and I don't agree with martial law in the USA being even considered. There is a movie called "The Siege" that depicts what General Franks is describing. The movie goes in directions I doubt would happen but it covers a lot of ground that it could. Martial law implies mandatory curfews, identification checkpoints, restriction of travel, even internment camps like back in WWII. The American people have never experienced such a complete loss of freedoms and would revolt I think. A very bad idea.

Being here in a country basically under martial law, it is a real nasty thing to watch. These people have been conquered by everyone since the ice-age that it just comes with the territory for them.

There was a kid who was shot by police nineteen times for carrying a neon green plastic water gun that they claimed was real. When you shoot nineteen times you have to reload....are you joking i hate the government they cant do **** right and they keep taking more power. The government is already bending the constitution to the breaking point. Imagine if cops were allowed to come into your home and arrest you for little petty stuff and beat you. Now remember that cops always arrive on the scene of real crimes like murder an hour late and that they already beat people unjustly and that if you touch one when you are pulled over they will be like officer down and shoot you.

How much of your freedom are you willing to give up in order to be "safe".

Look at the "security" measures you have to endure when you take a flight ... it may not be long before you can be arbitrarily stopped by authorities and have to produce "your papers" before you can proceed.

Will you be convinced that is for your own good and safety?

Go ahead, suspend the constitution and let's just hope it doesn't extend to freedom of speech and all the other freedoms we take for granted.

because the only reason this country is good is because of the rights and freedoms that the constitution gives us. you don't allow cops to shoot everyone who looks suspicious, because that's not only brutal and inefficient, but in this country at least, suspicion alone does not constitute a crime. and i hope that you aren't naive enough to think that things would go back to the way they were before if we did that. because if that's what it takes to keep us completely safe, then that's not going to change. curfews, and no privacy, and no right to challenge one's detention are the tools of a totalitarian regime, since you want that, try going to iran or north korea

Thomas Jefferson once said "if you are willing to be safe than be free, than you do not deserve to be safe nor free"

Why be safe? than give our freedom?
You can think what you want, but we deserve to have the right to be free than be safe. This is the very foundation by which our forefathers established for the country. Would it be any safer for us to open the mail, going to the mall, or geting our privacy being eyesdroped?

The world is dangerous if you dont change than you would die. Is hard these days, people dont accept of people trying to convince them, so why bother?

I heard on the radio, any major attack.
Larger then 911, the entire country will fall under
[ Martial Law ]....Military police....
Curfews, no public speaking, restrictions on food and fuel.
And all trouble makers, will be arrested.
Large fenced camps already built for that.
[ just in case ]
Ten around the USA, total capacity 3 million.

This is what I hate about many people. You don't ignore the Constitution. It doesn't matter what you think is the right thing to do. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. This is what got us into the Iraq mess.

Martial Law, should never be implied. Martial Law basically means, the government can make you do whatever they want, and have limitless power. Don't worry, it won't happen unless we withdraw our troops and go on the defensive.
