Of course you should pay if the work was done...no matter what the legal status of the worker is.
If someone is so concerned about the worker's legal status, then they should enquire into this BEFORE the job is started.
And there are legalities involved here. Even a deported alien can obtain a lien against a homeowner's property for failure to pay.

If you support slavery, you might find OK people to work for free. Why they don't ask for their legals paperwork before hire their work ? The paper work is just an excuse to get advantage of others status and get a job done for free. People who hires illegals to work is committing a crime rather they pay or not for the service done, that's why many stores and restaurants are closed. They were hiring illegals to work, it didn't matter if they did less bad because they pay for their work. The fact of not paying for the work done, just make matters worse, since slavery was abolished in this country a long long time ago. If you hire an illegal and do not pay for his work, you accusation can be raised for 2, one for hire illegals work and other for slavery, because you didn't pay them. It would be better you pay an illegal and keep the receive of its payment than don't be able to prove you have paid for the work. The penalty for slavery is worse than the penalty for hire illegal workers.

Non residents still have some rights, but I doubt he would demand them when the end result would be a trip back to the home country.
However, if they questioned the legitimatcy of their citzenship, they should have asked before work started, not after complete. The home owners are nothing more than common thieves.

That is very wrong. Those people may be illegal but the deserve the money and they had to waste their time on conceited snooty homeowners. What's it to them if they pay out to an illegal alien? It's not a big deal WHO they pay to, they obviously only hired those guys to cheat them. Very wrong!

Refusing to pay for labor performed is illegal. It's fraud. The problem is the person who is illegal may be afraid to go to authorities for fear of being deported. Solution. Get legal documentation to work in the USA. Otherwise you are susceptible to being used and abused.

Of course I would pay for work I had asked someone to do. To do otherwise would be wrong.
I would check to make sure they were on the up and up before hiring them though.

not paying for work rendered is utterly disgraceful.. people whom do this to others should be ashamed of themselves.. these people have to eat as well.. obviously if people are asking for papers once the job was completed, their intentions was to rip them off.. which would make them a thief..
karma is a beautiful thing..

I would have paid them. They worked, so they get paid. I also would have never have hired an illegal in the beginning, so it would have never have come down to that.

If you snuck into a business and started selling products, would you be upset if you were kicked out and not payed for "working".
Makes me sick...
