Are people not all humans?
Why must the way we dress or look automatically show the quality of our character?
I'm not asking this out of rudeness, but the human mind fascinates me, so does the narcissicistic attitude that most of us share.

It's not Christians that bugs me, as I'm religious myself.
It's not stereotyping that I'm talking about either, as I've been guilty of it before.
I just see all these posts, telling people to dress differently because the person looks "emo" and "emo people cut themselves" when that in fact, wasn't the original defenition of emo.
I'm not asking this out of rudeness, but the human mind fascinates me, so does the narcissicistic attitude that most of us share.
P.S. Don't tell me to "lyke wtf r u talking about? like omg, stfu!!!!!!" I'm looking for intelligient answers. I'm looking for answers that can make me think. If you can't spell the word "like" or a four letter sentence, chances are it won't come from you.

It is just the way we have evolved.
Most people stick with what they know because it's safe. We are a species that has a pack mentality - hence the saying - 'following the crowd'. Anything different is threatening. Personally I admire people who look and dress differently. If you saw me in the street - you'd never guess I listen to MCR, Aiden and have two tattoo's! But then I like being a dark horse. As for the narcistic attitude - personally I try to be an optimist.

In a sense it is a human tendancy to want to feel secure. So rather than accept the uncomfortable or at least try and understand different points of view people will just respond in a 'knee jerk' way. It is a shame and a waste, but people will often form opinions and points of view formed on the lowest common denominator - 'what everyone else thinks' rather than stopping to actually think about how rational their argument is. For some it is easier and more comfortable to 'go with the flow' and that is to look at what is 'normal' But what is 'normal'?

Narrow mindedness is the result of a basic social insecurity, and some people's need to have society (relationships, etc.) cleanly and neatly "defined."
People that are seen as "narrow minded" often lead fairly middle-of-the-road existences and prefer predictable patterns.
They often eat a somewhat restricted diet, not wanting to try new or different foods.
They're often "stuck in a rut" as regards their personal interests and entertainment.
They prefer simple "either-or" solutions to problems that are complex.
They often prefer male and female roles rigidly defined. Women are the housekeepers and caregivers, while the men are "manly" and are defined by their participation in "manly" pastimes like contact sports, hunting, etc.
Some of these men would prefer a hard slap on the back or a punch in the arm to touching or hugging another male friend, as they would feel "effeminate."
They cannot get their minds around social nude recreation, because the only time THEY'RE ever naked is to bathe or have sex. Thus - for them - nudity is automatically sexual.
Does that offer you any explanation?

Because it's safe. It takes no extra effort to form an opinion about someone based on their looks, whereas it might be more time-consuming and/or hurtful to actually get to know them.
In the case of religion, it's a comfort thing. They don't want to think about the fact that there might not be a god, because they might come to accept that idea. And they'd rather appreciate the thought that there will always be someone to love them unconditionally, that at least someone died for them, and that this life is not all there is.
Very good question... thought provoking indeed.

depends on who you are talking about. usually people are narrowminded in countries that are not democratic, or if their religion forces them to be. i would say out of ignorance, and intolerance for others and other cultures. i know that a lot of white christians are very narrowminded towards the possibility of another religion. they are stuck to the idea that christ is the savior.

As a narrow minded person, life experience has made me this way. I like what I like, hate what I hate.

humans take things at face value most of the time. they believe in everything that they see with their eyes, so don't blame them for stereotyping.
