Hi it's me again. I was once extremely nitpicking and anal retentive. Many people liked to ask for my opinion but didn't seem to like casual conversations with me. My ex pointed out that it was really tiring for her to be around me as I was constantly judging. Everything has to be up to my standards till it affects my moods.

I read some self help books and they pointed out that this over criticism stems from my own insecurities. I came from a poor family but went to the school with many rich kids. I was extremely worried how would my background affect me socially. I started over compensating by excelling in school, speaking over formally using big words and indulging in arty farty culture.

I also started putting people down to make me feel better about myself. Only till I started realising that I don't have anyone to answer to except myself, I stopped. You'll also believe everybody else have themselves to answer to and hence stop judging.

Being overly critical has it's advantages. We tend to be perfectionists at work. I became a successful auditor. Think Simon Cowell. Film critics have made a career out of this trait.

you may be insecure, because you don't feel like you are in control of your life.
