So, I have worked at an amusement park during the summer for the past two years. I was in high school then, and was living with my grandparents. Now I'm in college, living on campus, an hour away from my grandparents' house. I am starting a new job here, but I had previously agreed to come back for another summer at the amusement park. If I lived with my grandparents during the summer, I'd have all my needs taken care of by them, and I'd be making more money. However, I'd constantly be under their watchful eye. If I stuck with my job here and got my own place this summer, I'd be closer to my boyfriend and my friends, but I wouldn't be able to make as much money as I would at the amusement park. What do you think I should do?

I"d say go for new life experiences. Get some new and different ework xperience under your belt. But, do it for the job and the work experience, not so much for the boyfriend and friends. They will be there for you. If you got some great new skills and experiences under your belt that could increase your earnings potential in the long run.

First off, I would not classify it as a "watchful" eye. If you live with them you need to respect their rules, which of couse are going to be more conservative and responsible than yours. And is there something in your past that might raise some concerns? See if you can gain their respect and build their confidence in your decision making ability. Maybe you need to make some adjustments. If you are going to stay out late, plan ahead, tell them where you will be staying and why.

Go with the amusement park job. As a college student it is time to think about making better decisions, and the amusement park job sounds like the better deal.
Also I think you will have fun. I worked a SeaWorld for five summers and it was always a good time.
Also the amusement park job will look much better on a resume and it shows consistency.
Good luck.

You need to prioritize yourself. What's more important? Freedom or money? I lived with my grandparents for some time, but I did have to forsake my freedom. I know live in a house for triple the rent that I can barely afford, but the freedom was worth it to me. (I'm married with kids, too, so that is a different can of worms)

Also, how badly do you need the extra money? If you opt to stay with the lower paying job can you meet your needs? Consider, too, that living with your grandparents might give you opportunity to save up some money for things you might need later or even invest in IRAs which you probably should be doing now.

When making your decision, consider those points and weigh against the benefits of not living with your grandparents and see how it balances out. Just be careful how much weight you give to being free to party. It's fun, but may be wiser not to!

Good luck this summer regardless what you decide!

Stick at collage as long as you are making enough money to make it through. That way you are also building some time up with your regular job instead of quitting for the summer. If worst comes to worse get another part time job to make a little more money but usually that personal freedom is worth it. Then again it is only a summer.
