Use a condom/form of birth control everytime.
Trying to use a calander and trying to track your cycle is about as effective as the pull-out method. It doesn't work.
If you're not ready for a baby, you need to be 100% save. (Pill/shot/whatever + condom.) Or just not have sex.

You really have to look at your current situation and decide if you can risk getting pregnant or not. If you are married and it just wouldn't be a good time for child, but you don't want to use artificial birth control look into Natural Family Planning.
Natural Family Planning (NFP) refers to a variety of methods used to plan or prevent pregnancy, based on identifying the woman's fertile days. For all natural methods, avoiding unprotected intercourse during the fertile days is what prevents pregnancy. Natural methods are also known as fertility awareness-based methods.
This method is best for committed couples, who are mature and responsible enough to keep up on it. It doesn't always work well for singles with busy lives because it's hard to keep track, and when your both turned on and it's the wrong time of the month you both have to be committed to the plan.
Remember the only time you can be 100% sure you won't get pregnant is when you aren't having sex. The female cycle can be very fragile, and all it takes is some small stress that delays your cycle and all the sudden surprise!
In addition to the birth control issue, if you aren't married or living as your married, then you need a condom. STD's are on the rise. Married people get them too, but a lot less often.
Anytime you have sex, protected or not you run the risk of getting pregnant. Condoms break and even when used correctly with no breakage there is a chance of getting pregnant. Read the insert. The pill doesn't always work even when taken religiously. My sister got pregnant while on the pill. Luckily she was happily married and wanted kids so it was a real blessing for them.
The link below has more information on Natural Family Planning.
Be safe and responsible, but have fun.

There are no days that are 100% guaranteed against fertilization of an egg. However, there are days in the month that it is very unlikely to happen. You CAN get pregnant on your period, but it is a low chance. You are most likely to get pregnant in the few days after your period for 12 to 14 days. The following week (prior to your period), the chances of getting pregnant are also low. Since this is not a completely safe approach to sex, there are other things to consider. Such as:
Is there a religious reason not to use contraceptive?
Are you married or in a long-term committed relationship?
Are you prepared for the chance of becoming pregnant, if this or any method does not work?
If you have multiple partners, a condom is madatory EVERY time to avoid STDs.

No there is no time during the month when you can have sex without protection...birth control is NOT 100% effective and that is EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE MONTH. Ovulation is NOT an exact science and they are finding out now that more and more women ovulate more than once a month. Some wome ovulate during eir periods. In order to be "safe" you either do NOT have sex or at the very least use a condom.

There is supposed to be about 6 days between periods that you aren't ovulating but it is still not a guarantee you won't become pregnant semen can survive about 4 days in there so say you have sex on the 5th day you aren't ovulating and the semen is alive for 4 days there is still a chance of fertilization. So this isn't a very smart way to have sex
Safe sex is always necessary if you aren't planning on having kids anytime soon. if you are worried you might not always have a condom near by then how about considering birth control. there are many forms of birth control.

Not really because sperm can live up to 5-6 days. If you have sex during your period trying to "stay away" from your ovulation date and you happen to ovulate during the next 5 days... you'll probably get pregnant. Even if you're really regular, remember that there are many factors that can alter your cycle, things like getting the flu or going on a trip to a place with very different weather can drive your hormones crazy, so if you don't want to get pregnant, use protection every time.
And don't forget about STDs, they don't care if you're ovulating or not!!!

Not really, because sperm can live up to 5 days and everyone ovulates at different times. Always use protection and birth control if you REALLY don't want to get pregnant!
And it is possible to get pregnant on your period. Some woman ovulate almost immediately after their period ends and as I said above, sperm can live up to 5 days.

No, but there is a thing that looks like a thin sheet of rice paper and it goes on the penis and dissolves, then you don't feel it at all and it's supposed to kill the sperm. I'm not sure how well it works though.
Also, you can get pregnant when you are on your period. That's a myth that you can't.

a woman will ovulate 14 days after the 1st day of her last period and if you don't want to become pregnant then stay away from that day. OR simply don't have sex at all.
