i went to babysit the kids of the family i newly started working for. the 5 year old boy told me that his mom called me a bad a name bcoz she didn't like the work i had done when i was tutoring him.he started asking her right after he told me that what the word was. i do not think he was fabricating! he also said she slammed his homework on the table.
i just found this job and need money, but i was really disappointed by the mother's behavior. i feel totally disrespected...i'm wondering how i could find a good 20hours/week job...
do u think i should leave this job?
do u know how i can find a good 20hours/week job?

You shouldnt be working for someone that's not going to treat you right and it's not about the money it's about the respect and seems like your employer has some issues and if she's not respecting you then it's best to resign informing her she can find someone else who can appropriately suit her needs, but you're not entitled to be treated in then manner you've been treated.

It's a job, so if you like it at all (aside from this incident), then try to keep it. If you don't like it, just keep it until you find another one, then give notice and quit.

If you DO want to keep it, just look at it this way: The mother is your boss, so you should find out if her concerns are rational or irrational. If they're rational, then maybe you can modify how you're tutoring him...if they're irrational, you can start looking for another job.

How to approach her is to almost ignore the kid's comment and just go to her and say "hi, Mrs. xxx, I've been doing tutoring for little "Carter" for xx weeks now, and I wanted to see if everything was going ok...was there anything you wanted me to focus on or do better?" If she says "nothing," (and you believe the kid), then she's a whackjob, and start looking. If she explains her issues, listen with an open mind and don't get defensive ("Carter" is her little angel, remember), then leave and think objectively about them.

If they're legit requests, try to adjust and then check in in anothe rmonth or so. If they're nutty, try to adjust and look for another job.

Best places to look: hotjobs.com, monster.com, or (my fave) craigslist.com. Good luck!

Before you decide to say anything to the mother, think about how much you know about the family? She's yelling at him, slamming his homework and cussing in front of him. Maybe asking her directly will cause problems for the little one.

If you need to, you can ask her for some feedback, or if she has any tips for you that you can integrate into your approach with her son.

Good luck!

Did she turn red when he asked & leave the room? How did she react ?You should know by her reaction whether she did it of not. She also could have been angry about something else & that was just the nearest thing to slam, maybe she just got off the phone with someone, & maybe he just assumed it was about you. Besides she wasn't nasty to your face & your still working for her so she must not think you are too bad. Best bet go to Mc Donalds they are always hiring.

You could look for someone else to tutor before quiting your job. Being disrespected is difficult to put up with.

It's a tough decision, but you can always look for another job and once you find one, turn in your notice. You don't even have to say why.

Good luck and start seriously looking for another form of employment or another family to sit for.

Try the truth. Tell her that you never talk behind others backs, and do not like it when people do it to you, therfore you can no longer watch her child anymore.
