First of all relax, don't get tentative... big points or long rallys can do that to you. If you have a two hander, loosen your shoulders up and your arms, and go back to the basics of following through to your shoulder.
For a one hander, make sure you get low to the ball. Wrist movement is needed a little more for this stroke if you want good angle. Put topspin on the ball and get it deep.. don't go for clean winners with backhands unless really necessary. I use the backhand to set up the point so that I have the advantage, and I can finish it off at the net or will a killer forehand... Best of Luck in choosing!

Your question is not specific enough.
However, in terms of execution, a basic rule and pointer is to take your racquet back early and reach back well so that you will end up using your body into the shot. Not just your arms. You will also have more power if you put your whole body into the backhand.
Add a little topspin for safety over the net as well.

Well if depends on what area you're looking to improve in, if it's consistency, go out and hit backhands repetitively, if it's power, do some light weight training and flexibility training, if it's show selection play more games.
